Relationships and Attachment
As children we depend on our caregivers to meet our needs and orient us to life. While every generation does its best to care for the next, there’s an ongoing struggle with wounds passed down through generations, beginning with the fall in Eden. These wounds influence how we are cared for, how we understand ourselves, what we expect from others and how we survive in the world. When our needs are consistently unmet or inconsistently met, we develop ways of coping to protect ourselves from the pain of relational hurt. Therapy can help identify ways you’ve been impacted and support healing, offering an experience of secure attachment through the therapeutic relationship.

Trauma and Post-Traumatic Stress
Trauma may be anything that interrupts the ordinary flow of your life, that is experienced as a shock or rupture, and brings with it grief and loss. There’s a before and after to the experience, where you feel things will never be the same. It can shatter your beliefs about yourself, God, people and the world. It may come as a medical diagnosis, a sexual assault, the loss of a relationship or a home. It may come as a betrayal, an act of war, or an accident that leaves you in chronic pain. However trauma enters your life, whatever form it takes, the brokenness you feel right now can be the start of a story where tragedy is transformed into wisdom and strength. Where growth beyond what you believe is possible, can happen.

Catholic Pastoral Counseling
The deepest healing comes from a pastoral therapeutic approach that honors the full reality of your humanity – mind, heart, body, and soul. As Catholics, we enter the Pascal Mystery when we are baptized into the life and death of Christ. This helps us to find meaning in suffering. In pastoral counseling, we reference Scripture and the story of Christ to help us understand your story. To help us see not only a human interpretation of what’s happening, but to see also how God is present in it. We consider your struggles in the context of knowing that every hardship we endure is meant by God to lead us to Him through an experience of conversion. This allows us to ponder the mystery unfolding in your life and the potential your story holds for healing and transformation.
